Equity and Advocacy Summative

For the equity summative in L&L, there were three parts to it, which were making a PSA video, writing a TIEA paragraph and talking about the book read in your group. In all of the assignments, the most important part was about equity and advocacy. I had to talk about the relationship between the characters or people and equity and advocacy.

The topic of my PSA video was bullying and it was inspired by the book I read in my group, The Defense of Thaddeus A. Ledbetter. In the video, it showcases about some of the effects and statistics regarding to bullying. There shouldn’t be a lot of research because this is a PSA video not a research video. The objective of this video is to show and tell people about how bullying is an issue that shouldn’t be ignored and how people should help and stand up for victims of bullying. Equity is shown in the video when people stand up for each other. A person doesn’t need the help of another standing up for them because they are not bullied. People of victims would need the help of support.

My PSA video:

For the TIEA paragraph, the assignment was about writing and analyzing an issue from The Defense of Thaddeus A. Ledbetter. My TIEA paragraph was about how Mr. Cooper gave Thaddeus another chance of coming back to school. I wrote a topic sentence, introduction to evidence, the actual evidence and analyzation of the evidence in my TIEA. The analyzation part of my TIEA explains more about how the topic of Mr. Cooper giving Thaddeus another chance was related to equity and advocacy.

My TIEA:
In The Defense of Thaddeus A. Ledbetter, John Gosselink showed equity when Mr. Cooper gave Thaddeus another chance. Thaddeus was formerly in In-School Suspension due to his actions. However, “after long and careful consideration, much soul-searching, and speaking with the district’s legal counsel” (226), Mr. Cooper decided to allow Thaddeus back to regular school. Mr. Cooper gave Thaddeus one more chance to see if Thaddeus can be a student at Crooked Creek Middle School and not make decisions that may harm other people. Mr. Cooper’s action showed equity. The other students may need only one or two chances to reach that goal, but Thaddeus may needed much more chances to reach the same goal.

The discussion part of my equity and advocacy summative was to talk about The Defense of Thaddeus A. Ledbetter with my group members. A group member was assigned to make the discussion questions and during the discussion, we talked, answered, and shared our own opinions regarding the questions.
