Imitation Poetry

In L&L, I created poems that are made out of imitating other poems. I created 5 poems. The first two were of imitating “If I Were In Charge of The World” and “Where I’m From”. I annotated those two poems and made photostories for those two poems. Next, I made an ode poem, a list poem and a two-voice poem. For the ode poem, I annotated “Ode to Photographs” to learn more about how an ode poem is written. For the list poem, I annotated “Sick” to learn more about how a list poem is written. For the two-voice poem, I annotated “Lunch Room” to learn more about how to write a two-voice poem and recorded the two-voice poem I wrote with Miranda.

Imitation Poem

“If I Were the Queen”

If I were the Queen,
I’d cancel raisins,
Windy Wednesdays,
Heavy textbooks and also Loki Laufeyson.

If I were the Queen,
There’d be better shows whenever and forever,
Perfect people, and
Cotton candy just a bit sweeter.

If I were the Queen,
People wouldn’t have heartbreaks,
People wouldn’t have agony,
People wouldn’t have sadness.
Or “Boys are better than girls.”
There wouldn’t even be boys.

If I were the Queen,
A healthy lettuce salad with tomatoes and dressing would
be a sweet candy,
All students would never get tests,
And a person who’s always late,
And who always hate,
Would still be the best
Queen in the universe.

Imitation of “Where I’m From”

Annotation

Imitation Poem

“My Identity”

I am from books,
From Barbies and baby-taters,
I am from the couch in the living rooom.
(Brown, soft,
it felt like clouds.)
I am from the cherry blossoms,
the flower pots,
whose blossoms are in pastel pink,
yet they still fall when summer comes.

I’m from gum and cheeks,
from Andrea and Jennifer.
I’m from the hand-me-downs,
and the give-me-those,
from Come on! and Go away!
I’m from praying and believing,
with my hands clasped together,
and my head bowed.

I’m from Geisel and Camila Cabello,
boiled eggs and sweet tea.
From the time I met my best friend
in first grade,
the cute cheeks of my sister.

On the bottom shelf a thick book,
hides thousands of pictures,
a book of smiling faces,
which documented the lives of my family.
I am from the pictures—
one click of the camera—
rolling with the camera film.

Ode Poem

Annotation

“Ode to Family”

You know my family?
My mother, sister and father.

My mother has curly hair like a spring,
and she knows almost everything.

My sister loves to be funny,
and she is always so sunny.

My dad doesn’t play football,
however he is quite tall.

I love it when my mom cooks,
I love it when my sister laughs,
I love it when my dad takes us
to different places.

You know my family?
They are funny, caring and loving.

“My Dog’s Name”

“What should I name my dog?”
asked little girl, Gabriella.
“It could be Belle,
Or Michelle.
Maybe Millie,
Or even Lily.
What about Hailey?
Woo… how about Bailey?
Oh yeah! Camila?
Wait, even better, Bella!”
