Perspective City Reflection

In this unit, we have to make a one-point or two-point perspective drawing of a city that has culture. I decided to draw a one-point perspective drawing because I felt that I was more comfortable drawing that. Also, it’s easier to organize since there’s only one vanishing point. In my drawing, I used the horizon line as the separation between the top and bottom half of the paper. Then, I drew many buildings and a road on one half. On the other half, I drew the reflection of the buildings, creating upside down buildings with letters that are written backwards. The buildings included an apartment, a house a mall, a school, Target, a pizza, a cheese shop and a skyscraper. I wanted to draw my painting like this because I was inspired by a movie with an upside down world. The buildings are drawn under eye level and the reflection of the buildings are drawn above eye level. When I started to paint, I didn’t have a specific plan for what color I’m going to use for each of my building. I started with the sky and painted it a dark shade of purple. Then, I painted the roads with grey and yellow. Then I color the buildings. I made the corresponding buildings the same color. For painting, I used the wash technique. This technique allowed me to have a better control over the parts I’m painting. For the building’s reflection’s half, I paint over it with a dark shade of a greenish blue color. I was inspired by Stranger Things. In the show, there is this other dimension that is the same as the real world, but has creepy stuff. I tried to make the reflection part a bit gloomy.

In my peer’s work, her horizontal lines are parallel to the horizon line and her vertical lines are perpendicular to the horizon line. The lines on her drawing are drawn with rulers. She included many different shapes. She drew rectangles, squares, semi-circles, circles and organic shapes. She included more shapes in her drawing than I did in mine’s. She did a one-point perspective instead of a two-point perspective. She incorporated more space in her drawing. The space was more obvious. She added a lot of different colors. She made the colors pop with contrast and transitions between the colors. The combination of colors are really creative. She also added values to her drawing. I really like how she added the values to her building. I felt that it was really cool and creative. Overall, I felt that her drawing is really good and creative.

In my work, the horizontal lines are parallel to my horizon line. The vertical lines are perpendicular to the horizon line. My lines are drawn with rulers. I included only a few kinds of shapes. I had rectangles, squares and a triangle. I created geometric shapes instead of organic shapes. I felt that I could’ve added more organic shapes to my drawing. I tried to add as much color as I could. However, I still felt that my drawing has a lot of repeated colors and isn’t that creative. I think that my drawing would be better if I made more colors and incorporated them. I felt that could’ve made other colors. I tried my best to add values to the building. I added values by adding less water and more paint to create a darker shade. I felt that I could blend more. I’m not sure if my painting portrayed unity or harmony. I think that the painting does feel complete, but the colors makes the painting feel a bit off. I guess the shading kind of help with the movement. However, I didn’t blend the colors well enough. So, it looks a bit weird. I tried to show emphasis by using contrast. I tried emphasizing the buildings by using a black outline around them. I think my drawing was balanced because I made a reflection of the original row of building. The reflection makes the drawing have the same amount of buildings on both half of the paper. I think my drawing has contrast because my buildings are a lighter shade of the colors and the background is darker. The background is a dark shade of purple and there are black outlines around the buildings.
