Equity and Advocacy Summative

For the equity summative in L&L, there were three parts to it, which were making a PSA video, writing a TIEA paragraph and talking about the book read in your group. In all of the assignments, the most important part was about equity and advocacy. I had to talk about the relationship between the characters or people and equity and advocacy.

The topic of my PSA video was bullying and it was inspired by the book I read in my group, The Defense of Thaddeus A. Ledbetter. In the video, it showcases about some of the effects and statistics regarding to bullying. There shouldn’t be a lot of research because this is a PSA video not a research video. The objective of this video is to show and tell people about how bullying is an issue that shouldn’t be ignored and how people should help and stand up for victims of bullying. Equity is shown in the video when people stand up for each other. A person doesn’t need the help of another standing up for them because they are not bullied. People of victims would need the help of support.

My PSA video:

For the TIEA paragraph, the assignment was about writing and analyzing an issue from The Defense of Thaddeus A. Ledbetter. My TIEA paragraph was about how Mr. Cooper gave Thaddeus another chance of coming back to school. I wrote a topic sentence, introduction to evidence, the actual evidence and analyzation of the evidence in my TIEA. The analyzation part of my TIEA explains more about how the topic of Mr. Cooper giving Thaddeus another chance was related to equity and advocacy.

My TIEA:
In The Defense of Thaddeus A. Ledbetter, John Gosselink showed equity when Mr. Cooper gave Thaddeus another chance. Thaddeus was formerly in In-School Suspension due to his actions. However, “after long and careful consideration, much soul-searching, and speaking with the district’s legal counsel” (226), Mr. Cooper decided to allow Thaddeus back to regular school. Mr. Cooper gave Thaddeus one more chance to see if Thaddeus can be a student at Crooked Creek Middle School and not make decisions that may harm other people. Mr. Cooper’s action showed equity. The other students may need only one or two chances to reach that goal, but Thaddeus may needed much more chances to reach the same goal.

Perspective City Reflection

In this unit, we have to make a one-point or two-point perspective drawing of a city that has culture. I decided to draw a one-point perspective drawing because I felt that I was more comfortable drawing that. Also, it’s easier to organize since there’s only one vanishing point. In my drawing, I used the horizon line as the separation between the top and bottom half of the paper. Then, I drew many buildings and a road on one half. On the other half, I drew the reflection of the buildings, creating upside down buildings with letters that are written backwards. The buildings included an apartment, a house a mall, a school, Target, a pizza, a cheese shop and a skyscraper. I wanted to draw my painting like this because I was inspired by a movie with an upside down world. The buildings are drawn under eye level and the reflection of the buildings are drawn above eye level. When I started to paint, I didn’t have a specific plan for what color I’m going to use for each of my building. I started with the sky and painted it a dark shade of purple. Then, I painted the roads with grey and yellow. Then I color the buildings. I made the corresponding buildings the same color. For painting, I used the wash technique. This technique allowed me to have a better control over the parts I’m painting. For the building’s reflection’s half, I paint over it with a dark shade of a greenish blue color. I was inspired by Stranger Things. In the show, there is this other dimension that is the same as the real world, but has creepy stuff. I tried to make the reflection part a bit gloomy.

In my peer’s work, her horizontal lines are parallel to the horizon line and her vertical lines are perpendicular to the horizon line. The lines on her drawing are drawn with rulers. She included many different shapes. She drew rectangles, squares, semi-circles, circles and organic shapes. She included more shapes in her drawing than I did in mine’s. She did a one-point perspective instead of a two-point perspective. She incorporated more space in her drawing. The space was more obvious. She added a lot of different colors. She made the colors pop with contrast and transitions between the colors. The combination of colors are really creative. She also added values to her drawing. I really like how she added the values to her building. I felt that it was really cool and creative. Overall, I felt that her drawing is really good and creative.

In my work, the horizontal lines are parallel to my horizon line. The vertical lines are perpendicular to the horizon line. My lines are drawn with rulers. I included only a few kinds of shapes. I had rectangles, squares and a triangle. I created geometric shapes instead of organic shapes. I felt that I could’ve added more organic shapes to my drawing. I tried to add as much color as I could. However, I still felt that my drawing has a lot of repeated colors and isn’t that creative. I think that my drawing would be better if I made more colors and incorporated them. I felt that could’ve made other colors. I tried my best to add values to the building. I added values by adding less water and more paint to create a darker shade. I felt that I could blend more. I’m not sure if my painting portrayed unity or harmony. I think that the painting does feel complete, but the colors makes the painting feel a bit off. I guess the shading kind of help with the movement. However, I didn’t blend the colors well enough. So, it looks a bit weird. I tried to show emphasis by using contrast. I tried emphasizing the buildings by using a black outline around them. I think my drawing was balanced because I made a reflection of the original row of building. The reflection makes the drawing have the same amount of buildings on both half of the paper. I think my drawing has contrast because my buildings are a lighter shade of the colors and the background is darker. The background is a dark shade of purple and there are black outlines around the buildings.

Pattern Design Reflection

I drew many different designs in my pattern design drawing. There were 10 designs that I liked the most. The first one was one of the first few designs that I drew. This design was where I drew diamonds with shading and lines. To draw this design, I first drew diagonals lines to create squares. I tried my best to make the distance between the lines equal to result in squares that are proportional. Inside each diamond, I drew two line that creates a “+”. In the bottom left triangle, I shaded it so that the outer edge was a darker blue and slowly turning into light towards the middle. In the right top triangle, I drew lines starting from the intersections of the “+” towards the side of the square. The design that I had in mind was just squares and maybe some shading, but I had more ideas of what to put in the squares later on. I chose to draw the pattern like this because I wanted it to look 3D. I felt that the hardest part to create this pattern was that this was the first design that I included shading using a blue pen. I find that using a pen was difficult and it needs practice to achieve a high level of shading and creating value.

The second design that I would like to talk about was the leaf design. In this design, there were leaves overlapping each other. To create this design, I drew a leaf oval shape and another leaf oval design outside the first one I drew. In the smaller leaf oval, I drew lines that creates the details in leaves. Next, I colored in the space between the two ovals. I basically drew a leaf with a really thick border. The design I started out with in my mind was like this design. I chose to draw this design because I wanted to include organic shapes, since I already drew a lot of geometric shapes. I wanted to create a variety of patterns. I wanted the leaf to have a thick border to make it more elaborated and not make it look too messy. I was scared that the tile was not balanced because I made the border of the leaves a bit too dark. I included more designs to help balance it out.

The third design was the circle spiral/seashell design. First I drew a circle spiral, starting from the inside to the outside, then added lines in the circle spiral and shaded the design. I shaded the design to make the lines darker. I wanted it to look like a seashell. I didn’t change my mind when I drew the design. I decided to draw this design because I thought this design would look really cool. I think the hardest part of drawing the design was that it was a bit difficult to shade. This was because there were already lines inside the spiral and I didn’t want to ruin it because of trying to shade it with cross-hatching. I tried my best to mess up the sequence of lines by making my cross-hatching lines as light as possible. Also, I wanted the shading to make the design be like an illusion and help create a movement of either the lines going inwards or outwards. I think the difficult part was the shading because I felt that shading wasn’t easy.

The fourth design was the curvy line crosses. It’s when I drew curvy lines horizontally and diagonally, then inside every shape created, I drew a smaller version of it and shaded the design in. I shaded the design in because I thought it would create a contrast between the shaded shape and the white border. Outside of the duplicated shapes, I drew small details like lines and circles. I alternated these two border designs in every shape formed by the curvy lines. When I first drew this design, I just thought of drawing only the curvy lines that go horizontally and diagonally. I didn’t want to include the inside designs, but the inside designs make it look more interesting. I thought that this pattern was really pretty and reminded me of ripples created by dropping stones into water. I think the hardest part was including the small details in the patterns because the space to draw the details were limited.

The fifth design was the paint drip design. This design was inspired by a classmate. First, I drew curvy lines, sometimes the arch are really low, some are shallow. I then used the cross-hatching technique to make the tip look really dark. I also didn’t use a ruler to draw the cross-hatching because I wanted it to look hand drawn and a bit messy. I shaded the tip because I want it the design to show the heaviness of the paint, like the dark tip is really heavy and also to create a emphasis. I had this idea in mind once I started drawing. I like the organic shapes created in this design. Due to the shape of the drip, it was kind of hard to shade.

The sixth design was a constellation design. I drew a “H” with a certain amount of space in between each H. Then, I connected each H in columns. I shaded the H diagonally because I want certain shapes to stand out. The lines used to create the shading wasn’t really close because I didn’t want to make the shading really dark. This design was actually inspired by a wall in a cafe. I liked it and decided to make it into a constellation. My idea of this design didn’t really change when I was drawing this design. There weren’t really any difficulty that I had when drawing this design.

The seventh design looks like zigzag lines with vertical lines crossing through. First, I drew vertical lines, then slanting lines. I made the slanting lines touch each other at the tips. The touch tips would be on the vertical lines. After that, I shaded every other lines because I wanted the design to look 3D. I chose this design because I like how it is really simple. This design was a bit hard to shade. I felt that the reason is the same as the third design. I didn’t want to ruin the slanting lines.

The eight design was where I drew squares using straight lines. Inside some squares were more squares and others had lines. First I drew straight lines horizontally and vertically to create squares. Then, I draw two rows of square designs and two rows of lines. For the square designs, I drew a very small square, then a slightly bigger square outside of the small square. I color the space between the smaller square and the bigger square. For the line design, I just drew horizontal lines. I actually wasn’t going to alternate two rows of square designs and two rows of lines. I was just going to alternate each row of designs. For example a row of square designs, then a row of lines, then a row of square designs again. I ended up with the alternating two rows was because I made a mistake. The mistake was part of a challenge also. Instead of drawing a row of lines, I drew a row of squares, but I still thought the design I got was nice. This design was actually inspired by a drawing on the Internet and I made a variation of it.

The ninth design is the square spiral design. This is actually a variation of the circle spiral design. First I started out from the inside to the outside. Then, I shaded from the line towards the inside. The concept is very similar to the circle spiral design. In the beginning, however, I didn’t want to shade the design, but I felt that it was too simple if I didn’t.

The last design I wanted to share was the flower design. I started to drawing the design by drawing the center. The center is a circle with the very middle really dark and fades a bit towards the outside. I drew four small petals that connects to the center circle. I continued to draw more petals. In each set of petals, I drew different designs. For the first set of petals (the very first four I drew), I drew a line at the tip towards the center. The line fades halfway towards the center. For the second set of petals, I drew diagonal lines in the petals. For the third set of petals, I drew a border around each petal. For the last set of petals, I shaded the whole petal. The idea that I started out with was a simple repeating flower design, but when I started drawing it, I came up with more ideas and then made more petals. I chose this design because I like flowers. I chose to draw designs in every petal because I want the petals to have a lot of details, so it wouldn’t look boring. I think the hardest part of drawing this design was that the flower was a bit too small for me to draw the more detailed design into. I overcame this by drawing the designs slowly so I would stay in the line.

In my work, I included straight lines and other lines, such as curvy lines, slanting lines, diagonal lines. I thought that included different kinds of lines in my tiles. In my peers’ work, there were also many kinds of lines. One of my peers was really creative and she used many lines to create a specific shape that I thought was really cool. In my work, I drew geometric shapes and organic shapes. In my peers’ work, they also included the two different kinds of shapes. In my work, I did include space when I drew the circle spiral design by making it look like it is going inwards. In my peers’ work, they included space also in different ways. In my work, I included the colors: blue, white and light blue, though I felt I had more white and blue on the tiles. I thought that this was one of my weaknesses in creating value with a pen. In my peers’ work, the colors were a bit more pattern. In my work, I included value for many of my designs. I felt that the value in my tiles could be better. In my peers’ work, they also included value in many of the designs they drawn. I thought that I included unity in some patterns, but not all of them. I thought that I included unity in the pattern border designs the most. I felt that nothing was to contrasting or emphasizing and everything was equal. I included rhythm when I repeated the patterns in a tile. For example the repetition of the very first design. I thought that I only included some harmony parts. For example the designs inside the flower petals. The designs were different, but are relevant.

The Defense of Thaddeus A. Ledbetter BookSnaps

In this assignment, we were assigned in different groups. Each group has a different book to read. The book of our group is The Defense of Thaddeus A. Ledbetter. Everyday we read a certain amount of pages and we make booksnaps each day. We collect our booksnaps after each week. Booksnaps are when I take a picture of a page in the book, often using snapchat, and analyze the text. I would analyze by highlighting a specific section and create an analyzation. After that, I would have to add bitmojis and emojis that regards to the analyzation.
